Toothache?
Toothache or dental pain is a painful or inflammatory condition in and around the tooth, caused by tooth decay or infection.
Reasons may include:
Abscessed Tooth
An infection within a tooth and spreading to the root thus results in a painful condition of a tooth.
Cavities
Also known as dental caries. Cavities are not just holes, these can grow bigger and deeper than a hole.
Cocaine
Cocaine, very acidic in nature, when taken through the mouth – breaks down the enamel. Rubbing the powdered form of cocaine in between the teeth leads to sores.
Other Reasons Include
Cold or heat sensitivity, broken teeth, old fillings, and gum disease, etc.
Remedies to Prevent and Relieve Toothache
First, identify the cause of your pain! So that it is easy to cure the underlying cause rather than only treating the symptoms. Hence, you can find a permanent solution.
Hydrogen Peroxide rinse
Take one spoonful of H2O2/ hydrogen peroxide and dilute with equal parts of water. Take the solution and gargle it. This helps to reduce plaque and heals the bleeding gums.
Salt Water Rinse
Take a glass of water and add a half teaspoon full of salt. Use this solution as a mouthwash. It helps to loosen the food particles and debris that sticks in between the teeth.
Peppermint
Take a few dried peppermint leaves put them in boiling water, then let them cool for some time. Drink the liquid and chew the leaves. If you like the taste of the leaves swallow, if not spit them out.
(or) Slightly warm or wet peppermint tea bag, which helps to get rid of pain, keep the warm tea bag against the tooth until the pain calms down.
And also, a few drops of peppermint oil to be soaked on a cotton ball, and place against the affected area of the tooth as a temporary remedy.
Garlic
Take a piece of garlic and crush it, now add a little amount of salt and apply this to the affected tooth. This helps in relieving pain.
Thyme
Add 1 drop of thyme essential oil to a glass of water and use it as a mouthwash.
Or sprinkle essential thyme oil and water on a cotton ball, then press it against the painful tooth.
Cloves
Clove is a natural anesthetic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-bacterial agent. Therefore, chew the whole clove or place the clove and hold it against the painful tooth at least for 30 minutes. Or apply a small amount of clove oil to the affected tooth.
Aloe vera
Apply aloe vera gel to the painful area of the mouth and gently massage it. Aloe vera has anti-bacterial properties and destroys germs that cause tooth decay.
Guava Leaves
Add crushed guava leaves to boiling water and make a mouthwash. Guava leaves have anti-inflammatory properties which help to heal wounds and also have anti-microbial activity. Therefore, this kills the germs and prevents cavities, and also relieves bad mouth odor.
How to Prevent Tooth Problems
Brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste for 2 min.
Stop smoking, as it may worsen dental problems.
Avoid sugary foods and drinks.
Go for regular dental checkups.
