Natural Remedies For Morning Sickness During Pregnancy

Nausea in pregnancy is mainly due to the excessive production of pregnancy hormones flooding in the body. More than half of women experience nausea and/or vomiting during their pregnancy. You don’t need to worry for morning sickness, plenty of treatment options are available that can help you feel better.

By consuming certain foods, natural remedies, or medication can help them feel mostly nausea-free throughout the first trimester. Try these remedies and keep a nausea kit for emergency moments in your bag (plastic bags, wet wipes, napkins, water for rinsing your mouth, and breath mints.

Here are some anti-nausea tips to overcome morning sickness during pregnancy:

1. Try Herbal Teas

a. Nothing calms morning sickness better than a cup of ginger tea. This rhizome is also successfully used against motion sickness. Boil 30 grams of dried root in 1 cup of water for 15 to 20 minutes, strain and drink.

b. Infusions of chamomile, lemon balm and peppermint also soothe nausea. Brew 1 to 2 teaspoons of dried herb in a cup of water. However, if you suffer from heartburn, avoid peppermint.

2. Spices That Relieve

a. To calm your stomach, take ginger ale that you have left to fan at room temperature. We do not know why many pregnant women find relief (it is certainly not because of ginger since it is very little in this soft drink), but it is a fact. Avoid, however, the sparkling soda: its small bubbles increase the production of stomach acid, which will only worsen your discomfort.

b. Crunch anise or fennel seeds that are supposed to soothe stomach upset.

3. Take Vitamin B6

The results of studies indicate that pregnant women who took 25 milligrams of vitamin B6 three times a day (thus, 75 mg in all) for three days experienced relief from their nausea and vomiting. However, as with all vitamins, do not take vitamin B6 without talking to your doctor.

4. Drink a Lot Of Water

a. Water is the best medicine. As surprising as it may seem, women who drink a glass of water every hour suffer much less morning sickness. In addition, drink a glass each time you have to get up at night to use the toilet, which will help you start the day better. To find out if you drink enough, observe what color is your urine: if it is almost transparent, it’s a good sign. On the other hand, if it is dark, sinks to the bottom or gives off a strong odor, you should drink more.

b. If you can not keep anything, take an ice-cold fruit lollipop to replace the sugars you lose by vomiting. Made of ice water, the lollipop will hydrate you.

5. Citrus Fruits To The Rescue

a. Smell a slice of lemon. Some women claim that, for unknown reasons, it relieves their nausea.

b. Or take a glass of water with lemon juice or another lemon drink.

c. Add a little grapefruit peel, orange or shredded tangerine to your tea or herbal tea.

6. Do Not Be Starved

a. You may be able to prevent nausea by eating something before you even get up. Keep some crackers next to your bed and swallow them as soon as you wake up.

b. Take several small meals throughout the day, with the stomach better tolerating small amounts of food than fat ones. In fact, you could have a snack every hour or two, taking care to limit your portions, for example, peanut butter on apple slices, a handful of nuts, etc.

c. Take your prenatal vitamins with food to avoid vomiting. A salt cracker or whole wheat is sometimes enough.

d. Avoid fried foods, which intensify nausea.

7. Avoid Triggers

a. If you are particularly sensitive to odors during this time, stay as much as possible in well-ventilated rooms, away from kitchen odors or cigarette smoke.

b. There is nothing wrong with asking your partner to brush their teeth more often to avoid nausea triggered by bad breath. This sensitivity usually disappears after twelve to fourteen weeks, it will certainly forgive you this little temporary whim.

8. Rest Enough

Nausea tends to redouble with stress, fatigue and lack of sleep. So, do not overdo it! Living idle for a few weeks when they attack you is a good anti-nausea remedy. In the office, flee the stormy discussions and nervousness, and in the evening, go to bed early. Take a nap at the weekend to recover. Delegate as much as possible to the future dad or grandparents housework and eldercare. Nobody asks you to be a superwoman!

When to Worry

It can happen that nausea and vomiting that are prolonged cause significant weight loss, which can lead to dehydration of the mother-to-be. She is then hospitalized and receives anti-nausea medications by infusion before being reloaded progressively. On the other hand, if nausea and vomiting occur in the second or third trimester, the expectant mother should talk to her doctor. These may be signs of liver disease as well and all these anti-nausea solutions are ineffective in this case.
